Department of Medicine - Your Career after Residency

Whatever your career goals are, the program is invested in your success.  Program directors and faculty provide lectures and how-to sessions on career planning, conduct mock interviews, and help with CVs and personal statements.

Internal Medicine

If Internal Medicine is your goal, you’ll get solid training in both the art and the science of medicine from distinguished faculty. Many residents find that NorthShore is the place to continue their career, joining Endeavor Health Medical Group, one of the largest multi-specialty groups in the country. In fact, almost half our faculty are graduates of our program, with opportunities in both outpatient primary care and our division of Hospitalist Medicine.

Subspecialty Training

If you are interested in pursuing a sub-specialty, we have an excellent track record of matching residents with the most competitive fellowship programs in the nation.

Each year over half of our graduates continue into traditional sub-specialty medicine. Our residents have regularly successfully matched into competitive fellowships in specialties such as cardiology, gastroenterology, pulmonary/critical care, endocrinology, rheumatology, infectious diseases and nephrology at major institutions including the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, Rush Medical Center, University of Illinois, University of Michigan, The Ohio State University, USC and the University of Virginia. NorthShore began its own Gastroenterology Fellowship in 2012, its own Cardiology Fellowship in 2015 and its own Interventional Cardiology Fellowship in 2021.
