Department of Anesthesia

The Department of Anesthesia at NorthShore University HealthSystem provides superior anesthesia services to meet the medical care and pain relief needs of patients. The department is a critical component of NorthShore’s integrated healthcare delivery system—named in 2020 to Fortune/IBM Watson Health™ Top 100 Hospitals® list for a record 21st time, more than any hospital or health system in the United States. NorthShore also consistently ranks in the Top 15 Teaching Hospitals in the nation. NorthShore features five hospitals and four specialty institutes with significant capabilities in a wide spectrum of leading clinical programs: cardiovascular, orthopaedics, oncology and neurological. Headquartered in Evanston, Illinois, the NorthShore system hospitals are Evanston, Glenbrook, Highland Park, Skokie and Swedish.

A highly collaborative Anesthesia Care Team (ACT) Model characterizes the department’s broad-based practice that focuses always on optimizing the care and comfort of patients. Anesthesia care is delivered in a dynamic environment that promotes professional growth and development of the entire clinical team, from anesthesiologists to CRNAs to SRNAs and residents. As a teaching affiliate of the University of Chicago, as well as the School of Nurse Anesthesia Program based at Evanston Hospital, the department also helps to advance the latest in research and education of physicians to nursing staff.
