The musculoskeletal imaging fellowship is a one-year clinical program for four fellows. The fellows will have the opportunity to work closely under the guidance of five musculoskeletal attendings who are the Radiology Consultants for the Chicago Bears and the official radiologists of the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer. This one-year program in musculoskeletal imaging focuses on MRI, CT, and musculoskeletal ultrasound. Musculoskeletal Radiology is now located at Skokie Hospital which is a large-volume dedicated, state of the art orthopedic hospital. Approximately 60-120 musculoskeletal MRIs and 15-20 CTs are performed daily from nine hospital/outpatient sites, which include 14 1.5 and 3.0 Tesla MRs, and 14 CT scanners (including a 64-slice volume CT). Additionally, there are 3-6 arthrograms, MSK ultrasounds or other musculoskeletal interventional procedures daily.
MSK fellows will see a wide range of pathology with an emphasis on MRI and sports-related injuries. The fellows will also be involved in the care of elite athletes, such as professional football players and college athletes. Opportunities are also available for clinical and basic research in our 10,000 square foot radiology research facility with 1.5 Tesla and 3.0 Tesla whole-body MR systems. The educational opportunities are enhanced by monthly rheumatology conferences, monthly fellow lectures and journal club.
MSK fellows also participate in the general radiology fellow call pool and have several moonlighting opportunities available.
