Pediatrics

The Department of Pediatrics at NorthShore University HealthSystem provides a variety of services for pediatric patients throughout our communities.  In addition to the 250+ community pediatricians on our professional staff that provide general pediatric care, we have pediatric specialists who participate in clinical care, medical education for pediatric residents and medical students, and leading-edge pediatric research. 

 

  • Neonatology-Infant Special Care Unit:  Our Division of Neonatology, headed by Division Chief, William MacKendrick, M.D., supervises a large and internationally respected Infant Special Care Unit at Evanston Hospital that cares for premature and special need infants. Our Perinatal Family Support Center assists families whose infants are hospitalized.

    • ISCU Developmental Follow-Up Clinic: The Developmental Clinic, operated by Joanne Bregman Ph.D. and her colleague Rebecca Nelson Ph.D., evaluates infants, toddlers and preschoolers through 5-years of age. Babies are referred directly from the ISCU to monitor early at-risk conditions (e.g., prematurity or other problems at birth). Referrals are also welcome from pediatricians, parents and other outside sources, when concerns about development or behavior may arise.   • General Pediatric Inpatient Unit:   Monica Joseph-Griffin, MD, Director, supervises pediatric hospitalization.

 

  • Pediatric Neurology:    Kent Kelley, MD, Division Chief,  has physicians in this Division that have special expertise in general neurology, neurodevelopmental disabilities and pediatric sleep disorders. Learn more »

    • Center for Neurodevelopmental Disabilities: The Neurodevelopmental Disabilities Clinic (NDD Clinic) is comprised of a multidiscliplinary team which focuses on the diagnosis of different types of neurodevelopmental disabilities.   • Pediatric Endocrinology:   Stephen Duck, M.D., Chief, provides care for juvenile diabetes mellitus and other endocrine disorders, including thyroid and growth-related disorders. Education and support groups for families affected by diabetes are available. Learn more »

 

  • Pediatric ENT:   Mark Gerber, M.D., provides outstanding ENT support for infants and children, and is available for inpatient and outpatient consultations and procedures.

 

  • Pediatric Ophthalmology:   Peter Rabiah, M.D. sees a wide range of pediatric ophthalmologic conditions and participates in the screening of all babies in the ISCU at Evanston Hospital for retinopathy of prematurity.  Dr. Rabiah’s special areas of research include surgical management of strabismus and pediatric cataracts.
