While it is normal for your child to have the occasional upset stomach due to a common illness, certain digestive issues and stomach problems may require the intervention of your child’s pediatrician or a gastroenterologist. If your child is experiencing heartburn, difficulty swallowing, abdominal pain, excessive diarrhea, constipation, rectal bleeding or unexplained weight loss, contact your pediatrician for an appointment or go to the Emergency Department if symptoms are severe as these can be serious signs of gastrointestinal problems in children.
