Julian Bailes, MD, Co-Director of the NorthShore Neurological Institute, was featured on January 22 about a new study that may identify chronic traumatic encephalopathy (C.T.E.) in living patients.
“It is the holy grail of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) research to be able to identify those who are suffering from the syndrome early, while they're still alive,” said study author Dr. Bailes, who also serves as Director of the Brain Injury Research Institute and has been a CTE researcher during the last decade. “Discovering the effects of prior brain trauma earlier opens up possibilities for syndrome symptom treatment and prevention.” View the following articles about this study:

physician expertise
There are over 50 physicians on staff at the Neurological Institute—many nationally and even internationally recognized in their field—working together every day to diagnose and treat complex conditions involving the brain, spine and peripheral nervous system.
Parallel with the Neurological Institute’s focus on treatment and diagnosis is our commitment to neurological research and the advancement of the field of neurology. Work by our physician scientists is dramatically enhancing our ability to understand the root causes of neurological diseases and to predict future outcomes for our patients.
That work leads to new discoveries, advanced treatments, and the development of innovative surgical techniques to improve our patients' lives. We also strive to educate the brightest minds of tomorrow. In fact, many of our faculty members hold appointments with the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine: NorthShore’s principal teaching affiliate.
