The Division of Emergency Medicine services over 90 thousand patients a year in our emergency departments at Evanston, Glenbrook, Highland Park and Skokie hospitals. Jeffrey Graff, MD, Head of Emergency Medicine for 25 years at NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) and Jorge del Castillo, MD, Associate Head of Emergency Medicine have put together a staff of extremely qualified physicians. All our attending physicians are board certified in Emergency Medicine with a significant number who are also board certified in Internal Medicine. Additionally, two of our faculty have board certification in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
We are also fortunate to have as part of our division, Jerrold B. Leikin, MD, a nationally known Toxicologist and author of multiple textbooks that have become the standard for Emergency Medicine. Dr. Leikin is the head of one of the few clinical toxicology programs in the country at NorthShore.
Brigham Temple, MD, Director of Emergency Preparedness, coordinates system-wide operational disaster planning for NorthShore to ensure that our facilities will be able to continue providing expert patient care in the event of any internal or external emergencies.
In addition to excellent clinical services, a variety of educational programs are provided by the division under the direction of Morris Kharasch, MD, Director of Emergency Medicine Special Programs and Ernest Wang, MD, Associate Residency Director for Emergency Medicine and Academic Director of the Center for Simulation Technology and Academic Research (CSTAR) Simulation Center. All 4th-year medical students train in our Simulation Center as part of their clinical education. The Emergency Medicine residents, Internal Medicine residents, Family Medicine and OB-Gyn residents continue to be an integral part of education in our division.
The NorthShore Division of Emergency Medicine is dedicated to excellent patient care, bedside clinical teaching for a variety of learners, research to advance care in an acute setting, as well as to provide education and service to our community.
