NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) provides numerous opportunities for basic science, translational and clinical research in a continuum stretching from laboratory research to clinical trials assessing direct impact on patient care. Residents have access to the ongoing research activities at NorthShore and will have opportunities to collaborate with the Faculty at the University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Medicine.
NorthShore Research Institute spearheads research into the cause and treatment of human diseases. The Institute is based at two facilities: The Charles R. Walgreen Jr. Building at the Evanston Hospital campus and Research Park in downtown Evanston. Research Park includes a fully accredited animal research facility and research laboratories, as well as facilities for MRI-spectroscopy.
The Research Institute has more than $100 million in grants. NorthShore is in the top 5% of all institutions receiving NIH funding. We rank 9th in the nation among multispecialty research hospitals. Many of our research labs serve as regional or national reference laboratories, including those for neurological oncology, flow cytometry, gastroenterology, endocrinology and plasmapheresis.
