While it is normal for a child to have an occasional upset stomach  recurrent digestive issues and stomach aches may represent a more serious condition requiring evaluation by a pediatric gastroenterologist. If your child is experiencing heartburn, difficulty swallowing, abdominal pain, recurrent or chronic diarrhea, constipation, rectal bleeding, jaundice or yellowing of the skin or eyes, unexplained weight loss or poor weight gain, these symptoms may be the signs of serious gastrointestinal problems.
