General Orthopaedic Diagnoses | Concussion | Schroth Based Scoliosis Treatment | Pediatric Incontinence | Sports Injury Treatment and Prevention | Teen Driver Rehabilitation Program

Infants and children 0–5 years old with congenital and developmental rehabilitation needs are seen at our pediatric clinic. Children and adolescents 5–17 years old with the below conditions are seen at our orthopaedic clinics. Specialized therapists with the necessary orthopaedic skills and training work with younger patients in the following programs:

General Orthopaedic Diagnoses

Physical and occupational therapists are trained to treat many different orthopaedic problems. These include back pain, joint sprains, upper and lower extremity fractures, and repetitive strain injuries sustained by athletes and musicians. Therapists can also address pain or dysfunction as the result of muscle imbalances caused by congenital issues.

Concussion

Individuals with unresolving post-concussive symptoms may benefit from physical therapy. Treatment programs address complaints of dizziness, headaches, neck pain, imbalance, decreased endurance and assistance in return to school and sport. It may also be appropriate for individuals with impaired vision and cognitive skills to see an occupational therapist.

Schroth Based Scoliosis Treatment

The Schroth Method is a conservative treatment for idiopathic scoliosis using three-dimensional postural corrections done in conjunction with breathing and stabilization.

Pediatric Incontinence

Urinary incontinence, enuresis, encopresis/chronic constipation can be addressed with non-invasive treatments such as abdominal massage, stretches and retraining of pelvic floor muscles for kids 4 years and older. Using surface EMG biofeedback, therapists can improve muscle awareness and teach proper toileting mechanics.

Sports Injury Treatment and Prevention

Therapists provide treatment specific to an athletes’ sport or dance style, to strengthen and retrain propriception, preventing further injuries as well as assessing readiness to return to sport. Community based prevention classes provide instruction of dynamic warm ups to reduce common injuries caused by muscle imbalances.

Teen Driver Rehabilitation Program

The Teen Driver Rehabilitation program evaluates and provides training to individuals who may have some physical, cognitive, vision and/or perceptual deficits to determine their potential to drive. The program will also assess the need for adaptive equipment if appropriate.
