- Traumatic injury
NorthShore’s hand therapy program focuses on improving the flexibility, range of motion, strength, coordination and functional use of the hand or extremity. Experienced in orthotics for upper extremity injuries, our therapists may recommend a custom or prefabricated splint to correct or prevent further damage. Manual therapy, such as range of motion, strengthening, coordination exercises and training in adaptive methods for activities of daily living are all components of the treatment plan.
Our hand therapists work closely with referring physicians. Additionally, they are integral members of NorthShore’s multidisciplinary Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine teams that provide both surgical and non-surgical treatment options for the full range of upper extremity problems including the hand as well as the shoulder, elbow and wrist.
