Cancer treatment can frequently result in fatigue, pain, imbalance, difficulty participating in daily activities, brain fog, problems swallowing and communicating. A specialized cancer rehabilitation program can help patients overcome the side effects of treatment and enhance their quality of life.
NorthShore aims to assist individuals with cancer to reach the highest level of independent functioning through our multidisciplinary Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Services team. Our physical and occupational therapists and speech pathologists offer comprehensive rehabilitation services to oncology patients during and after cancer treatment. Possessing extensive experience in cancer rehab and collaborating with specialists in the NorthShore Kellogg Cancer Center and LIFE Survivorship Program, our therapists perform thorough patient evaluations to develop individualized treatment plans to address problem areas

Physical Therapy Services:
- Cancer Related Fatigue: Endurance/exercise training
- Balance training
- Lower extremity peripheral neuropathy: Balance training and strengthening

- TMJ (Temporal-mandibular joint) dysfunction
Occupational Therapy Services:
- ADL retraining
- Cancer-related fatigue: Energy conservation
- Cancer-related cognitive dysfunction
- Upper extremity peripheral neuropathy: compensatory ADL strategies
Speech Pathology:
- Voice: pre and post operative counseling, evaluations/measurements and treatment
- Swallowing: videofluoroscopic swallow evaluations, evaluation and treatment for difficulties swallowing
- Cognitive Dysfunction/Brain Fog: evaluation and treatment
