Our Pediatric Rehabilitation Clinic offers a wide array of outpatient services for young patients—from birth through adolescence—with special needs. A team of licensed physical, occupational and speech therapists specializing in pediatric care provide one-on-one individualized treatment as well as group classes to help patients achieve or regain functional skills.
Upon physician referral, children are seen for evaluations. Patients and caregivers actively participate in the treatment process. Depending on the needs of the patient, treatment recommendations may involve one or several coordinated rehab disciplines and be provided in individual and/or group therapy sessions.
- Occupational therapy services include activities and exercises for motor development; adaptive play; feeding; sensory processing; coordination, positioning and alignment; hand skills; visual-motor development and splinting and casting.
- Physical therapy services include activities and exercises for posture; motor development; balance; coordination; gait training; positioning and alignment; casting and seating.
- Speech therapy services include activities and exercises for articulation; language social skills; voice; hearing impairment; alternative communication; feeding and swallowing and cognitive development.
NorthShore offers a number of pediatric rehab therapy groups that provide a supportive learning environment to build readiness and socialization skills for community activities. The groups focus on:
- motor skill development
- strength and endurance
- cognitive and social skills
A therapist recommendation is required for participation in the group programs. Additionally, we offer specialty services for voice and resonance; feeding and swallowing and serial casting. We provide aquatics for special needs children in two locations: Evanston Athletic Club in Evanston and Park Center in Glenview.
