Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is the umbrella that covers Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis and microscopic colitis. Together around 1.4 million Americans are affected by these diseases. In fact, each year nearly 30,000 new cases of Crohn’s and colitis are diagnosed. However, most of us are unaware of inflammatory bowel disease symptoms, signs and treatment available to manage these diseases.

Our comprehensive IBD team works with every patient to develop a personalized treatment plan based on their individual needs and goals. Special situations such as pregnancy and fertility counseling, pediatric to adult transitions, complex surgical and nutritional issues, coping skills, and IBD associated colon cancer prevention are the specialty of our multidisciplinary treatment teams which include Adult and Pediatric Gastroenterologists, Colorectal Surgeons, IBD Nurse Practitioners, GI Health Psychologists and GI Nutritionists. Our Evanston-based IBD support group meets monthly for both new and seasoned “IBD’ers” and we continually pursue cutting edge IBD therapies through our robust IBD clinical trials program.

While IBD cannot yet be cured, a new generation of therapies and approaches has revolutionized the treatment of Ulcerative Colitis and Crohns Disease and made long term remission and bowel healing a reality.
