Cushing's disease is a type of Cushing's syndrome that's caused by a tumor in the pituitary gland. This type of tumor usually isn't cancer. The tumor makes too much of a hormone called ACTH, which causes the adrenal gland to make too much cortisol. This can cause weight gain and other symptoms. It can also lead to serious problems such a diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, and osteoporosis.
