Allergists & Immunologists
Karen Jackson, MD
Interests: Urticaria (Hives); Allergic Rhinitis; Asthma; Food Allergy; Drug Allergy
Practice Philosophy: My interest in allergy began years ago as an allergy and asthma patient. The perspective I have gained as a patient has been instrumental to my practice as a physician. I feel it is critical to take the time to listen to my patients, as well as educating them regarding their diagnosis and treatment options. I find this knowledge empowers patients to be active participants in their own care. Working together, I am able to determine treatment options with which my patients are most likely to be compliant. Practicing this way allows me to improve the quality of life of my patients at home, school and work. In addition, I find great satisfaction in working with athletes of all levels to get them back to their peak performance. Rachel Story, MD
Interests: Food allergy in children, Eczema (atopic dermatitis), Asthma, Rhinitis, Sinusitis, Urticaria (hives), Anaphylaxis, Immunodeficiency
Practice Philosophy: As an allergy patient myself and the mother of children with allergies, I understand on a personal level how allergies impact everyday life. I enjoy working closely with patients and their families to develop an individualized plan to manage their allergies and asthma. Because allergic disorders are often chronic conditions, they require a partnership between the doctor and patient. I find getting to know my patients and working closely with them to control their allergies the most satisfying part of being a doctor. I use a combination of environmental controls, medications, and at times, immunotherapy (allergy shots) to control allergies. I work with each patient to understand their concerns, goals, and preferences so that together we come up with an approach to best manage their allergies.
