The multispecialty team provides each patient with a personalized care plan to create the path for the most successful outcome, including recommendations for advanced diagnostics, consideration of organ preservation, or minimally invasive options and participation in promising clinical trials, as well as complete follow-up care.

Treatment for head and neck cancers varies depending on the specific subtype of cancer that is diagnosed. For many patients, chemotherapy coupled with radiation therapy may provide the best results. NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) has a linear accelerator that delivers precise doses of radiation using Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) technology. This allows higher doses of radiation to be delivered to tumors while sparing healthy tissue.

When surgery is required to treat these cancers, our surgical oncologists ensure that all steps are taken to preserve any at-risk organs of the head and neck.

NorthShore’s team of medical oncologists manages and oversees each patient’s care from diagnosis through treatment, coordinating with other specialists as needed.
