Vascular Medicine

Many vascular conditions, from blood clots to vasculitis, can be diagnosed and treated non-invasively and without surgery. Potentially life-threatening, blood clots demand not only prompt but also expert medical attention. At NorthShore, our experienced vascular medicine staff brings to our patients a singular focus on the medical management and prevention of clotting (thrombosis) disorders—an expertise not found at all medical centers.

Our multidisciplinary team of physician specialists cares for patients with blood clotting as well as bleeding problems, including deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism and post thrombotic syndrome, to name a few common vascular conditions. Additionally, NorthShore offers an outpatient thrombophilia clinic, one of only a handful of such clinical services in our area that provides expedited specialty care five days a week.

The vascular medicine team will also evaluate and treat atherosclerotic and non-atherosclerotic disease in all vascular regions. This includes Raynaud’s disease, as either a primary problem or as the sign of more morbid diseases such as distal embolic disease, connective tissue disease or thoracic outlet syndrome.

For inpatients at any of our NorthShore hospital locations, we deploy our Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (PERT) to provide comprehensive evaluations of individuals admitted for blood clotting disorders. Upon discharge, patients are offered personalized outpatient follow up care to help them best tailor their recovery and minimize the likelihood of recurrent thrombosis.

Our knowledgeable vascular medicine clinicians use state-of-the-art testing modalities and the latest medications and therapies so that you receive the very best of customized care.
