Our LASIK Suite, housed within The Eye and Vision Center at Glenbrook Hospital, is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, allowing our trained surgeons to perform laser treatment to fix refractive errors while providing patient services including pre-operative testing, complimentary consultations and postoperative follow-ups. We offer an “all-laser”, blade free LASIK procedure, which requires less recovery time than traditional surgery.

During your complimentary consultation, your vision will be assessed and you will meet your surgeon to discuss your options and expectations.
Before LASIK Surgery
- Prior to your surgery day, you will come in to have your eyes measured. This will take approximately 1.5 hours
- If you wear contact lenses, you will be asked to stop wearing them 2 (soft contacts) or 3 (rigid contacts) weeks prior to testing in order to allow for accurate measurements
- You may continue prescribed medicine as usual unless instructed otherwise by your ophthalmologist
- On the day of the procedure, please arrive 45 minutes prior to your scheduled time – you will check in, receive a mild sedative and go over post-op instructions
- Do not wear any makeup, fragrances or hairspray
- Dress comfortably (the laser room is kept at a low temperature)
- Arrange for someone to drive you home after the procedure
During LASIK Surgery
- You will be in the laser room for approximately 20-25 minutes
- You will be lying on your back, and will receive numbing drops. A small device keeps your eye from moving
- Your surgeon will use a laser to open a small flap in the cornea
- The laser is targeted to the affected area, and takes less than 1 minute to complete reshaping
- After reshaping the cornea, the flap is closed and the process is repeated on the other eye
After LASIK Surgery
- Make sure that you are driven home after the procedure – vision will be clearer, but still hazy for the next 12 to 24 hours
- You will be provided with a postoperative kit containing eye drops, protective eye shields, solar glasses and instructions
- We recommend rest for a few hours after surgery to recover from the sedative
- Your ophthalmologist will prescribe 2 types of eye drops that will keep the eyes lubricated
- Wear protective eye shields each night for 3 days
- Our team will work to schedule postoperative follow up appointments as recommended for the day after, one week after, 1-3 months later, 3-6 months later and one year later
It is advised that patients do not do the following after LASIK surgery:
- Rub eyes
- Wear makeup for 1 week
- Swim, use a sauna or enter a hot tub for 2 weeks
- Allow excess water to get into the eyes during a shower
- Participate in activities that risk eye injury
