NorthShore Hospitals Again Receive Straight A’s in Newly Released Leapfrog Quality and Safety Grades

5/15/2019 - All four NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) hospitals again received grades of A in ratings from The Leapfrog Group, a national organization that focuses on quality and safety in American health care. The updated Hospital Safety Grades were released Wednesday and NorthShore’s Evanston, Glenbrook, Highland Park and Skokie hospitals all again received A’s.

“Quality and patient safety have always been top priorities at NorthShore and it’s great to receive national recognition for the work we do in this area across our entire system,” said Chief Quality and Transformation Officer Lakshmi Halasyamani, MD. “While we’re happy to receive straight A’s, NorthShore has made a multi-year commitment to re-double our efforts as we focus on providing the highest quality care to our patients. So the work continues.”

The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. The Safety Grade assigns an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ or ‘F’ grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The results are free to the public.

“Hospitals that earn an ‘A’ grade are making it a priority to protect patients from preventable medical harm and error,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “To be recognized nationally as an ‘A’ hospital is an accomplishment the whole community should take pride in.”
