Dr. Sims really spent time listening to my concerns and equally importantly looking at me (and not the computer). My previous independent PCP left the area 5 or 6 years ago--she was awesome. I went to three other PCPs at before seeing Dr. Sims feeling like I just hadn't found a "fit"--that's a different story. All of them spent more time looking at the computer than looking at me. After seeing Dr. Sims the first time, I decided I was the problem and that this is just medicine now so I decided to come back to see Dr. Sims. I was pleased by the time she spent talking to me---but I admit to being surprised that this is the first time I've not been asked to remove any clothing to have a physical. I have to admit I wondered if that was the result of the time she spent talking to me. It appears that there is a lot of pressure on doctors to get throughput or limit the time they spend with patients. I suspect that is going on at other healthcare systems too and it will be hard to outrun it. I mentioned trying to move more healthcare to NS but not being able to so I guess I'll find out if it's the same everywhere.

Dr asked questions in this initial visit that showed she was carefully reading the details in my medical record. She made great eye contact. She really provided a fresh perspective on some parts of my normal care regimen when I asked for that.
