About CT Angiography
CT angiography or CTA is a specialized, computer guided procedure which is used to produce detailed pictures of blood vessels in key areas of the body including the chest, abdomen and pelvis.
What to Expect
The procedure usually takes less than 30 minutes. A rapid injection of dye is given to visualize the blood vessels.
What are Some of the Common Uses?
CT Angiography is typically used to:
- Identify disease and aneurysms in the aorta, both in the chest and abdomen or in other major blood vessels
- Identify dissection or splitting in the aorta in the chest or abdomen or its major branches
- Indicate disease in the renal artery or visualize blood flow to help prepare for a kidney transplant
- Evaluate the details of arteries feeding tumors prior to surgery or chemoembolization
How Should I Prepare for My Exam?
There is no preparation necessary for this test. After the test drink more fluids to help rid the dye from your system.
How Will I Learn the Results?
A specialized body imaging radiologist will review and analyze the images and send a signed report to your primary care or referring physician, who will discuss the results with you.
