Clinical Pathologist - Transfusion Medicine/Coagulation

  • The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore), the principal academic affiliate of the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, is seeking a clinical pathologist for a position in transfusion medicine and coagulation. Interest and experience in informatics is also a plus.

    The successful candidate will be board-certified in CP or AP/CP, with fellowship training in transfusion medicine and experience in coagulation.  (S)He will work closely with the Directors of Transfusion Medicine, Hematology and the Core Laboratories to provide technical innovation and oversight, maintain competency of staff, and consult with clinical services. Other responsibilities include teaching residents, medical students, and medical technology students. Board certification in Transfusion Medicine by the American Board of Pathology is required.

    The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine includes 30 full-time physicians and doctoral scientists, 10 of whom are in the Clinical Pathology and Molecular Pathology Divisions. The Department sponsors a longstanding and successful ACGME-accredited AP/CP pathology residency program, fellowships (with University of Chicago) in Medical Microbiology and Molecular Genetic Pathology, and Medical technology school on site.

    The blood banks of the four NorthShore hospitals function as an integrated service with a common quality program, procedures manual and computer system. Virtually all immunohematologic investigations are completed on site. Three of the four hospitals host donor services which collect volunteer whole blood and apheresis platelets, autologous blood, a large number of therapeutic phlebotomies, and autologous hematopoietic stem cells. The transfusion medicine physicians have a close consulting relationship with the clinical staff, including real-time consultation with anesthesia regarding use of hemostatic components use in the OR.

Anatomic Pathologist

  • The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore), the principal academic affiliate of the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine is seeking an Anatomic Pathologist.

    The successful candidate for the position will have training and experience in a university or large health system setting that includes residency and fellowship programs. In particular, expertise in genitourinary pathology, gynecological pathology, cytopathology, or dermatopathology, is desired. Experience in medical renal pathology would be a plus. Certification by the American Board of Pathology is required.

    The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine includes 30 full-time physicians and doctoral scientists, 18 of whom are in the Anatomic Pathology Division. The Anatomic Pathology division accessions more than 70000 surgical (17,000 dermatopathology) and 37000 (3300 FNA) cytopathology cases annually.  The Laboratories are centralized at Evanston Hospital and serve the entire NorthShore system which includes 4 hospitals (900 beds) and nearly 2000 physicians.  The Department sponsors a longstanding and successful ACGME-accredited AP/CP pathology residency program, fellowships in AP, medical microbiology and Molecular Genetic Pathology (with University of Chicago), and Medical technology school on site.  The Anatomic Pathology Division is well-integrated with Clinical and Molecular Pathology, with a range of services including next generation sequencing and FISH performed on site.
