Bereavement Services and Grief Counseling

Grief doesn’t just start at the time a loved one dies, and it doesn’t end at a prescribed amount of days or months after the death. Everyone deals with grief differently and NorthShore Hospice offers a variety of bereavement services to support families while they cope and move forward.

Bereavement Services Coordinators Thom Dennis, LCPC, and Jennifer Feinberg, LCSW lead a team committed to helping those who have suffered the loss of a loved one.  Survivors of NorthShore Hospice patients are able to receive grief support services for up to 13 months following the death of their loved one.

From individual counseling to grief support groups and workshops through referrals for out-of-state family members and comprehensive grief education correspondence, hospice bereavement services are designed to provide a myriad of helpful resources.

“It depends on what the family needs, we try to meet them wherever they are at in their journey,” Dennis said. "Hospice patients are often particularly comforted to know their family will not be alone and will continue to receive support once the patient is gone."

Individual Counseling

Grief counseling is available to children and families, as well as adults, of hospice patients for up to ten (10) sessions at no cost. Counseling services are provided at our office in Skokie, Illinois, and in the home for the homebound. Referral resources are also available outside our service area upon request.
