As a surgical pathologist, I evaluate samples of tissues to identify and categorize benign and malignant processes which help guide treatment of the patient. My specific interests include genitourinary, gastrointestinal and breast pathology. I have been involved in several research projects aimed at identifying tumor characteristics which will better predict the behavior of prostate and bladder cancers. I evaluated samples from the gastrointestinal tract for both inflammatory and neoplastic processes. This includes the monitoring of patients with Barrett’s esophagus and inflammatory bowel disease. My analysis of breast cancer begins with a diagnostic biopsy and extends to resection specimens and lymph nodes which help determine the stage of the cancer.
