Personal Bio
Personal Interests I study placental biology and its relationship to maternal, fetal and neonatal disease. I work with several multidisciplinary teams of researchers at NorthShore and other great institutions. My most recent collaborative work at NorthShore has focused on placental pathology, its relationship to adverse pregnancy outcomes and how socioeconomic status, race and perinatal stress contribute to these outcomes. I have also obtained funding to meticulously study maternal blood, umbilical cord blood and placental tissue from patients with chronic placental inflammation and hope to determine the potential etiologies of these inflammatory processes in the placenta through molecular analysis. My other interests include defining the value of postmortem examination and placental examination in stillbirth and recognizing lesions in the placenta which may portend a higher risk of accreta in a subsequent pregnancy.
