Anatomic Pathologist/Perinatal Pathologist

  • The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore), the principal academic affiliate of the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine is seeking a full-time Anatomic Pathologist with subspecialty training in Pediatric pathology and experience in perinatal pathology.

    The successful candidate for the position will have a background in perinatal, anatomic and autopsy pathology in a university or large health system setting. The position will require ability to handle a high volume of work within a complex healthcare system that includes specialized medical and surgical services, numerous active clinical trials and translational research projects.  NorthShore sees over 4000 deliveries annually and hosts a busy regional high-risk OB service which includes genetics. The institution is also home to a growing Personalized Medicine program. This pathologist will be expected to provide expertise in perinatal and placental pathology and serve as a lead pathologist for the high risk and general obstetrics services. Additional expertise in an area of anatomic pathology such as renal would be a plus.  Some general pathology coverage and on-call service is also expected.  Other responsibilities include teaching residents, medical students, and medical technology students.  Board certification by the American Board of Pathology is required.

    The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine includes 27 full-time physicians and doctoral scientists, 10 of whom are in the Clinical Pathology and Molecular Pathology Divisions.  The Clinical Laboratories are centralized at Evanston Hospital and serve the entire NorthShore system which includes 4 hospitals (900 beds) and nearly 2000 physicians.  The Anatomic pathologists do rotate to provide services at each of the NorthShore hospitals. The Department sponsors a longstanding and successful ACGME-accredited AP/CP pathology residency program, fellowships in AP, medical microbiology and Molecular Genetic Pathology (with University of Chicago), and Medical technology school on site.

Director of Microbiology Laboratories

  • The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore), the principal academic affiliate of the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine is seeking a full-time Director of Microbiology Laboratories.

    The successful candidate for the position will have a background in medical and clinical microbiology in a university or large health system setting, and will provide technical innovation and oversight, maintain competency of staff, and consult with clinical services.   In addition, the Director will collaborate with the Director of Infectious Diseases Research to develop and validate molecular technologies that advance laboratory diagnosis, and promote understanding of the epidemiology and control of infectious diseases.  Other responsibilities include teaching residents, medical students, and medical technology students. Board certification by the American Board of Pathology or the American Board of Medical Microbiology is required.

    The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine includes 30 full-time physicians and doctoral scientists, 12 of whom are in the Clinical Pathology and Molecular Pathology Divisions.  The Clinical Laboratories, including Microbiology, are centralized at Evanston Hospital and serve the entire NorthShore system which includes 4 hospitals (900 beds) and nearly 2000 physicians.  The Department sponsors a longstanding and successful ACGME-accredited AP/CP pathology residency program, fellowships in AP, medical microbiology and Molecular Genetic Pathology (with University of Chicago), and Medical technology school on site.  The Microbiology Laboratories have 30 FTEs and performed approximately 300,000 tests annually; the lab includes state of the art MALDI-TOF and molecular technology, and was one of the first laboratories in North America implement total laboratory automation including bench top and work cell automation.

Pathologist, Molecular Hematopathologist

    The successful candidate for the position will have fellowship training in hematopathology and molecular genetic pathology. This pathologist will work closely with the laboratories and staff to provide technical innovation and oversight, and clinical consultation. Clinical signout responsibilities in both hematopathology and molecular pathology will be equally balanced. Other responsibilities include teaching residents, medical students, and medical technology students. Board certification by the American Board of Pathology is required.

    The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine includes 28 full-time physicians and doctoral scientists, 10 of whom are in the Clinical Pathology and Molecular Pathology Divisions. The Microbiology Laboratories are centralized at Evanston Hospital and serve the entire NorthShore system which includes 4 hospitals (900 beds) and nearly 2000 physicians. The Molecular Pathology Laboratory includes 4 doctoral level faculty, has 12 technical FTE’s, and state of the art technology including NGS. The Hematopathology service reviews nearly 700 bone marrow and 200 surgical samples annually, performs immunophenotyping on site, and is expanding its FISH menu. The Department sponsors a longstanding and successful ACGME-accredited AP/CP pathology residency program, fellowships (with University of Chicago) in Medical Microbiology and Molecular Genetic Pathology, and Medical technology school on site.
