The NorthShore University HealthSystem Clinical Microbiology Laboratory is a full-service laboratory located at Evanston Hospital, serving a combined 832 licensed beds among Evanston, Glenbrook, Highland Park, and Skokie Hospitals in addition to nearly 2100 affiliated NorthShore University HealthSystem physicians.  Specialty reference testing in bacterial, fungal and parasite identification, antimicrobial testing, molecular strain typing and virus detection is offered.

The Clinical Microbiology Laboratory is a training site for microbiology fellows, adult and pediatric infectious disease fellows, pathology residents, and medical technology students.  In collaboration with the NorthShore University HealthSystem Division of Microbiology and Infectious Disease Research, investigation into molecular methods for diagnosis and antimicrobial testing, and methods for recognition of hospital infections are emphasized.
