Clinical Research Studies Associated with Dynamic System Models

Clinical research is a critical component of the Center for the Study of Complex Disease. Clinical research studies not only provide important data necessary to build and validate dynamic models, but provide a vital avenue to test the clinical predictions and hypotheses about the underlying mechanisms of disease that these models generate. This is a key step to move the learning from the dynamic system models into improvements in clinical care and treatment of patients with complex diseases.

• Development of a novel method to measure rectal levels of 5-Aminosalicylaic acid (5-ASA), a treatment for inflammatory bowel disease.
• Infliximab kinetics: Determining the effects of combining infliximab and immunomodulators on infliximab blood levels in patients with Crohn’s disease.
• Using the national HCUP database to determine whether patients with IBD are at increased risk for the development of Hemophilus influenza.
• The effect of extraneous factors such as general reporting rates, reports by attorneys and effects of Black Box Warnings on bias introduction in the FDA AERS.
• A clinical study of Osteoporosis risk in Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
