Research and Academic Interests

My basic science research has been into ameliorating brain injury in the premature infant with the hope that understanding the pathways of injury can be translated into future treatments for human infants. As an academic neonatologist I have expanded my research interests to include clinical research into the patent ductus arterious and respiratory distress syndrome, as the principle investigator at Northshore for multicenter trials. I am also the principle investigator at Northshore in collaboration with Jennfer Batza on several studies that are investigating the counseling of the families at periviable gestations. My plan is to combine the basic science with clinical research to prevent and treat perinatal brain injury. My overall career goal is to contribute to improving outcomes for human infants and their families.
