Cardiovascular disease, including myocardial infarction and stroke, is the leading cause of death in the United States. Despite many discoveries and advances in the field of cardiology, people are still at risk for developing heart disease. Research has linked heart disease to a number of risk factors including having abnormal cholesterol levels, smoking, and lack of physical activity. The mission of the NorthShore Lipid and Preventive Cardiology Program is aimed at aggressively targeting all these risk factors to help prevent cardiac events in people at risk of or who already have established heart disease.

The Comprehensive Approach

The program incorporates a comprehensive approach to the evaluation of each patient to determine their individualized risk profile and develops a tailored treatment plan.

Evaluation and Treatment May Include

• Comprehensive cardiac evaluation
• Specialized blood work to measure cholesterol levels and new cardiac risk markers
• Consideration of non-invasive imaging of blood vessels to detect silent cholesterol build-up
• Individualized counseling on heart healthy lifestyle including nutrition and exercise guidance
