Pacemaker optimization echocardiogram is a “pacemaker tune up echocardiogram”.

What to Expect

This is a limited study that evaluates the "contractility", or pumping ability of the heart. The test will take about 45 minutes to perform. An echo technician will place a transducer with gel onto the chest area to image your heart. Using advanced Doppler indices, the electrophysiology nurse will optimize the timing of the pacemaker so that the heart chambers work at the most efficient level. These images will be displayed onto a television monitor for the technician and the electrophysiology nurse to visualize, and they will also be recorded for a Cardiologist to review.

Formal written results will be available to your physician within 24 hours.
Your doctor may also be contacted by telephone immediately afterwards for abnormal results.

What to Do

Wear comfortable clothing that is easily removed above the waist.

After scheduling an appointment, you may pre-register by phone 2 days prior to the test by calling 847.492.6900.  If you have not been pre-registered over the phone you should arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment and report to the Registration Department.  You will be asked to provide billing and insurance information at that time.

If you have a written physician order bring that with you on the day of the test.
