This procedure is used to evaluate blood flow to your heart muscle or fitness level.

What to Expect 

The test will take approximately 1 hour. A technician will place electrodes on your chest that will be attached to a treadmill monitor. Resting blood pressure and heart rate values will be recorded. A Cardiologist will be present during the test which will consist of various stages of increased workload designed to increase your heart rate. During the test your heart rate, blood pressure and EKG are continuously monitored. You can stop the test when you feel the workload is to hard. The doctor can stop the test if they feel they have enough information or if there are any abnormal responses to the exercise.

Formal results will be available to your physician within 24 hours.
Your doctor may also be contacted by telephone immediately afterwards for abnormal results.

What to Do 

Eat light two hours prior to the test. No caffeine the day of the test. Wear or bring comfortable clothes and walking shoes. Continue taking your medications as prescribed unless instructed otherwise by your physician.
