Christopher M. Masi, MDAs the Director of Health Services Research, Christopher Masi, MD, PhD, oversees the design and evaluation of systems approaches to improving the care of NorthShore patients. His research interests are in chronic disease management (particularly hypertension and diabetes), sociocultural barriers to care, qualitative research, technology-based health interventions, and health disparities. He chairs the Society of General Internal Medicine’s Board of Regional Leaders and have served as PI or Co-I on several federal- and foundation-funded research programs.  Current research projects include evaluating the quality of diabetes care provided by primary care physicians, implementing and evaluating a systems-based approach to hypertension management, developing a text message-based intervention to enhance care of painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy, and identifying factors which underlie physician use and underuse of oral anticoagulants. In addition to research, Dr. Masi is practicing general internist.  It is through clinical practice that I gain the most insight regarding chronic disease management and strategies to overcome health disparities.
