Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture

Molly Cofman, MSOM, Dipl. OM. L.Ac.
Molly is a licensed, board certified acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist.  She completed her master of science in Traditional and Oriental Medicine at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago.  She also holds a bachelor of science in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and a master of fine arts in Theater Arts and Dance from the University of Arizona.   Molly’s scientific and creative endeavors include genetic and dermatological research as well as exploring movement therapy for spinal cord injury patients and other special populations.  Molly has taught dance and movement classes extensively.

Molly draws upon her diverse background to help patients identify what health and healing means.  This includes exploring both the physical and the psychological aspects of bringing the body back into balance.  She believes that wherever we are in our healing process, the ability to connect with joy greatly affects how comfortable we feel in our body and also our ability to maintain our best quality of life.  Molly enjoys treating a wide range of conditions whether the focus is on curative or adjunctive care.  With her movement background , she is uniquely qualified to treat musculoskeletal disorders and has an intimate understanding of the body and kinesiology.  In addition, her special interests include oncology, women’s health, auto-immune disorders, pediatrics and neurological disorders.  In her free time Molly enjoys dancing, travel, spending time outdoors and time with friends and family.

Molly is currently part of a collaborative pilot program offered by the Integrative Medicine Program and the Kellog Cancer Care Center.  This program addresses the special needs of cancer patients and provides a bridge between traditional and integrative medicine.  Molly provides acupuncture treatments for patients in combination with treatments they receive from their oncology team.

Nicole Hohmann, MSOM, Dipl. OM. L.Ac.
Nicole began her studies at Shanghai University for Traditional Chinese Medicine during a semester abroad in China where she interned at YueYang Hospital of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine. She observed the wide range of application of China’s traditional medicine and was so impressed with the effectiveness of this gentle and holistic approach to health that she decided to make this her career path. She holds a masters of science from Midwest College of Oriental Medicine, is a licensed acupuncturist, and is national board certified in Oriental Medicine, the highest level certification which includes expertise in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. During her training she interned extensively with Chinese medical doctors who specialize in acupuncture and herbal medicine for women’s health.          

Nicole has worked with the Integrative Medicine Program for several years, treating a wide variety of conditions and teaching medical residents about acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. She has studied yoga and meditation through the Himalayan Institute and is a former teacher and clinic supervisor for Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. Her special interests include women’s health, supportive cancer treatment, acute and chronic pain, infections/immune disorders, pediatric acupuncture without needles, stress related conditions. Outside of the clinic, Nicole enjoys writing, tending to her garden and spending time with her family. 

Edgar Lim, MS, BS, L.Ac., Dipl., OM, ACI, NMT, NSCA-PT

Edgar is a licensed board certified acupuncturist, a certified auricular-therapist, a certified neuromuscular therapist and a certified NSCA-personal trainer.  He has a Master’s of Science in Oriental Medicine, a Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Physiology and a certification in Massage Therapy.  Edgar has taught Sport Medicine Acupuncture and Sport Massage at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine and Chicago School of Massage Therapy, respectively.  He has worked in the health care field for almost 20 years, dealing with a wide range of health issues such as longevity, strength training, digestive disorder, multiple sclerosis, cancer, Parkinson’s and rehabilitation.  Edgar uses a combination of acupuncture, massage therapy and exercise to promote optimal holistic health.  He specializes in sports medicine/orthopaedic pain management and post-rehab strength training.  Edgar enjoys his free time with his family, playing sports, traveling and carpentry.

Patricia Piant, MSTOM, Dipl. OM, L.Ac

Patricia is a licensed, board-certified acupuncturist and Chinese Herbalist. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an Master of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago. She held internship positions at the NorthShore University HealthSystem Integrative Medicine Program, the Lakeview Clinic in Chicago and WellSpring in Evanston. Patricia was previously an assistant teacher at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine and currently mentors medical and acupuncture interns. She also worked for many years in the pharmaceutical industry, studied the Hearth Center with Brugh Joy and holds certifications in shiatsu, yoga and reiki.

Patricia draws from a strong background of both traditional and integrative medicine, and has witnessed first-hand how powerful the combination can be. In her practice, she works closely with patients as they transition through life and their healing process. Patricia enjoys treating a wide range of health needs with a focus on preventative medicine, oncology, pain, digestive issues and women’s health. In her free time, she enjoys time with family and friends, often over a good meal.

Dave Vavrinchik

 

David Vavrinchik, M.S., L.Ac.

Dave is a licensed, board certified acupuncturist and herbalist.  He holds a Master of Science degree in Oriental Medicine from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago, where he also serves as a faculty member/instructor. 

Dave treats adults and children with a wide range of complaints, including respiratory disorders, stress/anxiety, gastrointestinal and digestive problems, headaches and migraines, musculoskeletal pain such as neck and shoulder, elbow, knee and low-back complaints, supportive therapy for cancer, and smoking cessation.   He maintains a private practice in Elmhurst, Illinois.

Dave also has a western medical background for a combined 30 years experience in healthcare.  He is a graduate of Northwestern University Respiratory Care Program, Chicago, and, has been a Registered Respiratory Therapist since 1979.   Dave worked both as clinician and manager, in the areas of intensive care, home care and hospice, healthcare consultation, and as a healthcare inspector/evaluator.   Prior to working with the Northshore Integrative Medicine Program, he served at the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), where he assisted in the development of health care standards and the evaluation of health care facilities, nationwide. 

Dave maintains a healthy respect for both western and eastern (oriental) medicine, two of the world’s most widely used medical systems.   Dave has treated many clients where these two systems have been combined, or integrated, to achieve very favorable results.   Integrative medicine offers the client more choice in treatment.   In addition, it offers the client proven prevention and lifestyle strategies. These practices can help bring the body back into balance, and have the potential to help the individual achieve the highest possible levels of well- being and energy.
