Dr. Felise Zollman Will Further Expand NorthShore’s Research and Clinical Expertise
2/6/2012 – Neurologist Felise S. Zollman, MD, brings more than 20 years experience treating patients with brain injuries and neurological disorders to her new position as the physician lead for memory disorders at NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore). Dr. Zollman’s expertise will further elevate NorthShore’s ability to utilize the latest research to treat the most complex cases.
She will also co-lead the NorthShore head injury program with another nationally recognized expert, Julian Bailes, MD, Chairman of Neurosurgery, who joined NorthShore in September 2011 to continue his extensive research in traumatic brain injury.
“Dr. Zollman is an excellent addition to NorthShore’s Neurological Institute (NNI) strengthening our multidisciplinary team that includes Neurology, Neurosurgery, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Neuropsychology,” said Demetrius Maraganore, MD, the Chairman of the Department of Neurology and NNI Medical Director. “She is a well-published leader with a career in neurology, rehabilitation and alternative medicine. Her expertise will build on NorthShore’s commitment to deliver the highest caliber neurological care in the region.”
Dr. Zollman has pioneered innovative methods for treating memory diseases. As previous Medical Director of the Brain Injury Medicine and Rehabilitation Program at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, she conducted research on the use of acupuncture to treat insomnia and cognitive impairment in brain injury. She also studied the use of virtual reality to treat attention impairment in brain injury, as well as brain injury in military service members. Her research has been published in several journals, including Brain Injury and the Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation. She is a recognized subject matter expert in traumatic brain injury, producing a textbook on the subject in 2011.

Zollman is board certified in neurology, is a certified member of the American Society of Neurorehabilitation and a diplomat of the American Board of Medical Acupuncture. In addition, she served as the Brain Injury Fellowship Director at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Also at the Feinberg school, Dr. Zollman was an assistant Professor in the Departments of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Neurology.
Dr. Zollman completed a residency in neurology at University of Southern California after completing an Internal Medicine Internship at UCLA and a second year of Internal Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. She also earned her Medical Degree from Baylor College of Medicine.
Dr. Zollman lives on the north side of Chicago.
