Dr. Ken Anderson, Chief Medical Quality Officer, discusses what the recognition means to NorthShore.

12/4/2012 – NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) Evanston and Glenbrook Hospitals have earned The Leapfrog Group’s “Top Hospitals” designation for 2012.  Both were among 67 "Top Hospitals" selected from a field of nearly 1,200 hospitals nationally based on the results of the Leapfrog Group’s annual hospital survey, which measures performance on patient safety and quality.

“Our physicians and staff strive to provide high quality care and exceptional patient experiences across our entire system, and this honor is reflective of that work,” said Ken Anderson, DO, Chief Medical Quality Officer at NorthShore.  “We work every day to achieve those goals, and the Leapfrog designation further validates the efforts of everyone at NorthShore University HealthSystem.”

The Leapfrog “Top Hospitals” survey focuses on three critical areas of hospital care: how patients fare, resource use, and management structures in place to prevent errors.  The results of the survey are posted at http://www.leapfroggroup.org/cp.

“By achieving the Top Hospital accolade, NorthShore Evanston and Glenbrook Hospitals have demonstrated exemplary performance across all areas of quality and patient safety that are analyzed on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey,” said Leah Binder, President & CEO of The Leapfrog Group.  “These hospitals stand out as consistently providing safe, high quality care.”

Leapfrog also recently came out with its semi-annual Hospital Safety Scores and all four NorthShore hospitals – Evanston, Glenbrook, Highland Park and Skokie – earned ‘A’ grades.  The Hospital Safety Scores are calculated using 26 measures of publicly available hospital safety data.  Nationwide, only 30 percent of the hospitals studied received ‘A’ grades for the fall period.  All four NorthShore hospitals also received ‘A’ marks in Leapfrog’s safety ratings released last spring.
