NorthShore University HealthSystem Appoints Omar Brown to Board of Directors

3/30/2022 - Omar Brown, Senior Vice President, People and Culture Officer, Big Ten Conference, has been appointed to NorthShore University HealthSystem’s Board of Directors. The NorthShore University HealthSystem board is one of four community-focused boards central to NorthShore – Edward-Elmhurst Health’s commitment to enabling and empowering local regions to meet community needs.

“Omar brings a combination of authenticity and expertise helping organizations realize the potential of their transformations through the power of people,” said Sean O’Grady, president, North Region, NorthShore – Edward-Elmhurst Health. “In addition to his strong experience including diversity and inclusion, organizational design, change management, communications and more, his commitment to strengthening our communities and leading by example is truly inspiring.”

“As a longtime Evanston resident, I have seen first-hand the positive impact NorthShore has made through the dedication of its team members and a culture driven by improving people’s lives,” said Brown. “I am energized by the significant opportunity we have to create meaningful, lasting impact, including increasing healthcare access and equity and establishing ourselves as an employer of choice.”

At the Big Ten Conference, Brown leads all people operations efforts for conference staff including talent acquisition, professional development and performance management and drives diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. Most recently, he is leading the planning for Big Ten Conference’s “Big Life Series,” a collection of events that will provide student-athletes from all 14 of its member institutions with transformational educational experiences to help further prepare them to impact the world beyond their athletic careers.

Brown’s previous roles include serving as an organizational transformation leader in Deloitte’s Human Capital Consulting practice and as part of the Chicago Transit Authority leadership team, including more than two years as vice president of human resources. His deep experience includes roles with the City of Chicago, University of Illinois System, Illinois Housing Development Authority, General Board of Pension and Aon Hewitt. Brown serves as an adjunct faculty within Loyola Chicago’s Quinlan School of Business as part of their Baumhart Scholars Program where he teaches “Managing and Motivating in the Workplace.”

He holds a master’s degree in public policy from Northwestern University, a master’s degree in business administration from Loyola University Chicago, and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Northeastern Illinois. Brown volunteers with the Fellowship of Afro American Men (FAAM) as a boys’ basketball coach and serves on the Board of Directors for the McGaw YMCA of Evanston. He is a former member of the Chessmen Club of the North Shore, served on the District 65 School Board, as well as on the boards of the Youth Job Center and Youth & Opportunity United.
