NorthShore University HealthSystem and Edward-Elmhurst Health Celebrate Merger

NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) and Edward-Elmhurst Health today announced their merger is official. The combined organization brings together 25,000 team members and 6,000 physicians with an unwavering commitment to serving an area of more than 4.2 million residents in communities across Illinois.

A prominent feature of the newly created system is the creation of community investment funds through which NorthShore and Edward-Elmhurst Health are each committing $100 million to their respective communities with the purpose of enhancing community health and well-being, advancing health equity and supporting local economic growth. These funds will generate millions of dollars in annual interest that will be used to make a direct impact – building on strong existing commitments and providing even more engagement opportunities.

“I couldn’t be more inspired when thinking about the journey that lies ahead, anchored in our belief that the best healthcare is local—built upon trusted relationships and connections,” said J.P. Gallagher, President and CEO of the new health system. “Our combined organization offers significant promise for our patients, team members and communities. As we deepen our commitment to community connection and expand regional access to leading-edge, expert care in our patients’ back yards, we have the opportunity to create something truly differentiated and transformative.”
