Practicum Training in Clinical Neuropsychology

Practica Description: The Neuropsychology Service at NorthShore University HealthSystem is offering training practica in adult and pediatric neuropsychology (two separate tracks) for the 2024-2025 academic year. The practica will be comprised of neuropsychological assessment and consultation. Students will be trained in a variety of neuropsychological measures, receive formal didactic training in neuropsychological disorders, and will obtain extensive experience in clinical assessment and report writing. The primary clinical focus is with outpatients. However, the adult-focused trainees will also be provided with inpatient opportunities, including the possibility of observing intraoperative language mapping and Wada testing.

Supervision: In addition to at least two hours of structured individual supervision each week, students receive considerable informal individual supervision, as well as biweekly group supervision.

Didactics: Our practicum students attend the Dept. of Psychiatry and/or Dept. of Neurology Grand Rounds and the Neuropsychology Case Conference. Our didactics occur on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday mornings each month. Didactic attendance is mandatory.

Time Commitment: Students will be expected to be on site approximately 16-20 hours per week, usually over 2 to 3 days.

Supervisors: Our adult neuropsychology staff includes Elizabeth Geary, Ph.D., ABPP, Leslie Guidotti-Breting, Ph.D., ABPP, Laura Benson, Ph.D., Alona Ramati, Ph.D., ABPP, and Christopher Williams, Ph.D. Drs. Geary, Guidotti Breting, and Williams provide adult practicum student supervision. Our pediatric neuropsychology staff includes Alexandra Kirsch, Ph.D., Navya Kamath, Psy.D., ABPP, Stephanie Aylward, Ph.D., and Nicole Cruz, Ph.D, ABPP. Drs. Kirsch, Kamath, and Aylward provide pediatric practicum student supervision. Additionally, both adult and pediatric practicum students will receive supervision from our postdoctoral fellows. The diversity of special interests and training represented among our neuropsychologists and fellows allows our program to provide services to the full range of clinical disorders among children, adolescents, and adults.

Location: Training opportunities are available at our Evanston outpatient office at 909 Davis Street in Downtown Evanston. The didactics and inpatient opportunities described are available at Evanston Hospital. These locations are easily accessible by CTA/Metra. Free parking is also provided for students who prefer to drive at both locations.

Application Procedures: Interested students are expected to have completed classwork and (preferably, but not necessarily) prior practicum training in intellectual and personality assessment. Prior classwork in neuropsychology/neuropsychological assessment is not required.
