Research and Academic Interests

My main research interest in Center for Advanced Imaging has been in studying non-invasive MRI biomarkers for early diagnosis and monitoring the progression of kidney diseases such as acute renal failure, chronic kidney disease, and nephropathy associated with hypertension, diabetes and iodinated contrast administration in both human subjects and pre-clinical models by applying functional MRI techniques, particularly blood oxygenation level dependent (BOLD) MRI to evaluate the renal hypoxia which is believed to play an important role in the pathogenesis of the above diseases and conditions. I am also interested in studies of applying other functional imaging techniques, for example diffusion to assess kidney tissue microstructure which is associated with renal fibrosis, a progressive process that ultimately leads to end-stage renal failure.
