
The Center on Outcomes, Research and Education (CORE) is the locus for health outcomes research at NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore). CORE has established itself as a leader in health outcomes assessment, measurement and applications to improve patient care and influence policy. CORE bridges clinical activity and outcomes Research at NorthShore University HealthSystem through Quality Improvement/Continuity of Care at the Research Institute. Collaborations in clinical research with major hospitals in the greater Chicagoland area and CORE's research on health outcomes and effectiveness evaluates how various treatment strategies affect results important to patients.
CORE is staffed with employees whose combined expertise has allowed for the advancement of multiple goals in research, hospital and community education. Within these three primary units, operational groups have been organized to provide specialized functioning. For research alone, CORE has staff dedicated to research operations, scientific advancement, data management, and statistics. CORE offers a variety of services to NorthShore University HealthSystem, universities and to investigators. CORE is also actively involved in extramural research and in outcomes education.
CORE's work has four primary goals:
- To provide leadership to NorthShore University HealthSystem for generating and interpreting outcomes data
- To demonstrate improvements in the quality and cost-effectiveness of care at NorthShore
- To facilitate clinical outcomes/effectiveness research by NorthShore investigators
- To conduct nationally visible, externally-funded outcomes/effectiveness research
