MRI of the body is a noninvasive, computer-guided procedure that combines the uses of a magnetic field and radio waves to produce detailed pictures of organs, soft tissues, bone and virtually all other internal body structures. This test enables our team of experts to properly diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions such as tumors, heart disease and cancer.

What are Some of the Common MRI Uses?
MRI of the body is typically used to:
- Evaluate organs of the chest, abdomen and pelvis including the heart, liver, biliary tract, kidney, spleen, pancreas and adrenal gland
- Evaluate pelvic organs including the reproductive organs in the male (prostate and testicles) and the female (uterus, cervix and ovaries)
- Identify tumors of chest, abdomen and pelvis including reproductive organs
- Find causes of pelvic pain in woman, such as endometriosis
- Identify diseases of the liver, such as cirrhosis
- Help diagnose conditions of the bile duct, gallbladder and pancreatic ducts (MRCP)
What to Expect?
The body MRI procedure usually takes 30 to 60 minutes. An injection of contrast dye is sometimes given to visualize the blood vessels.
How to Prepare for an MRI
There is no preparation necessary for this test except the removal of all metal (e.g.: jewelry, watches, glasses, etc.). You will be asked to fill out a screening form before the test to assure your safety.
Note: Patients with pacemakers and certain other implants are not eligible for this exam.
How Will I Learn the Results?
A specialized, board-certified body imaging radiologist alongside your referring physician will review and analyze your MRI scan. This seamless, collaborative approach allows our experts to provide you with timely results.
