Associate Director of Blood Banks

  • The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore), the principal academic affiliate of the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine is seeking a full-time Associate Director of Blood Banks.

    The successful candidate for this position will have a background in transfusion medicine in a university or large health system setting. The director will work closely as a consultant to the clinical services, participating in real time management of intraoperative coagulopathies, management of the FACT-certified HPC program, and other transfusion medicine-related care.  Other responsibilities include teaching residents and medical technology students. Board certification from the ABP in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology or Clinical Pathology and certification in Blood Banking/Transfusion medicine is required.

    The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine includes 27 full time physicians and PhDs, 10 of whom are in the clinical pathology and molecular pathology divisions. The NorthShore blood banks are fully integrated with a single procedure manual and software system, and joint accreditation by the AABB and CAP.

Associate Director - Microbiology Laboratories

  • The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore), the principal academic affiliate of the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine is seeking a full-time Associate Director of Microbiology Laboratories.

    The successful candidate for the position will have a background in medical and clinical microbiology in a university or large health system setting. The associate director will work closely with the Director of Microbiology Laboratories to provide technical innovation and oversight, maintain competency of staff, and consult with clinical services.  In addition, the associate director will collaborate with the Director of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Research to develop and validate molecular technologies that advance laboratory diagnosis, and promote understanding of the epidemiology and control of infectious diseases. Other responsibilities include directing the Infectious Diseases Serology section, teaching residents, medical students, and medical technology students. Board certification by the American Board of Pathology or the American Board of Medical Microbiology is required.

    The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine includes 27 full-time physicians and doctoral scientists, 10 of whom are in the Clinical Pathology and Molecular Pathology Divisions.  The Microbiology Laboratories are centralized at Evanston Hospital and serve the entire NorthShore system which includes 4 hospitals (900 beds) and nearly 2000 physicians. The Microbiology Laboratories have 35 FTE’s, state of the art technology, and will be one of the first laboratories in North America to install, validate and use total laboratory automation including bench top and work cell automation.
