
Bernard Ewigman, MD, is the Owen L. Coon Chair of Family Medicine at NorthShore and the Chair of Family Medicine at the University of Chicago. He serves as the Executive Medical Director for the NorthShore PBRN.
As Founding Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Chicago, Dr. Ewigman has grown the department to include clinical practices, over 110 physicians, medical student education, a residency program, fellowship programs and a practice-based research network.
Prior to his arrival at the University of Chicago and NorthShore, he spent 28 years at the University of Missouri-Columbia where he practiced family medicine highlighting obstetrics and inpatient care.
Dr. Ewigman has won numerous research and teaching awards and honors, including the Pew Primary Care Research Award.
As Director of Research at the University of Missouri-Columbia from 1991-2002, he helped build one of the leading research departments in family medicine.
An expert in clinical trials, methodology, and clinical epidemiology, his current roles also include leadership of a national academic consortium, author of numerous articles in scientific journals, Associate Editor for the Journal of Family Practice and founder, President and Executive Editor of the Family Physicians Inquiries Network (FPIN).
He is a member of the NorthShore Faculty Practice Plan Board of Directors, NorthShore Research Institute Board of Directors, the NorthShore Accountable Care Organization Steering Committee, and Co-Lead Investigator on the $22 million Clinical Translational Science Award from the National Institutes of Health.
