Sports injuries are not limited to the professional athlete. Everyone from the grade school athlete to the weekend warrior is susceptible to a sports injury. Some of the injuries include tennis elbow, wrist tendonitis, shin splints or golfer’s elbow, to name a few. These chronic conditions can be caused by excessive or improper use. Athletes are also vulnerable to acute, traumatic injuries such as fractures, strains, sprains and abrasions.
Some athletes may be tempted to ignore pain but should remember that, if left untreated, an injury will probably get worse over time. The sports medicine physicians of NorthShore University HealthSystem use a variety of surgical and non-surgical techniques to put the athlete back on the playing field.
