NorthShore Again Earns Straight A's in Hospital Safety
5/8/2013 - All four NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) hospitals – Evanston, Glenbrook, Highland Park and Skokie – again earned ‘A’ grades in The Leapfrog Group’s semi-annual Hospital Safety Scores. All NorthShore hospitals also received ‘A’ marks in Leapfrog’s ratings released last year.
The Leapfrog Group says its Safety Score program, which was launched in June 2012, grades hospitals on their overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors.
“We are proud that all four of our hospitals again received ‘A’ grades and believe it reflects the dedication of our physicians and staff to make high-quality care and patient safety a priority throughout our system,” said Ken Anderson, DO, Chief Medical Quality Officer at NorthShore. “That is a goal that remains unchanged and something we at NorthShore University HealthSystem strive for each day.”
Calculated under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group’s eight-member Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 26 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from infections, injuries, and medical and medication errors. Leapfrog says the scores are designed to inform and empower patients as they make healthcare decisions.
