11/29/2012 – NorthShore University HealthSystem Evanston, Glenbrook, Highland Park and Skokie Hospitals all earned ‘A’ grades in The Leapfrog Group’s semi-annual Hospital Safety Scores. All four NorthShore hospitals also received ‘A’ marks in Leapfrog’s ratings released last spring.
"These grades reflect the incredible work of our physicians and staff to make high-quality care and patient safety a priority at all four of our hospitals," said Ken Anderson, DO, Chief Medical Quality Officer at NorthShore. "It’s what NorthShore strives for each day, and we’re proud that all of our hospitals were able to maintain the ‘A’ grade."
The Hospital Safety Scores are calculated using 26 measures of publicly available hospital safety data. The resulting letter grade represents a hospital’s overall success in keeping patients safe from infections, injuries, and medical and medication errors. The newest ratings reflect updated methodology and updated data from the hospitals. Nationwide, only 30 percent of the hospitals studied received ‘A’ grades for the fall period.
"Leapfrog is unbiased in telling the whole truth about how hospitals are doing, no matter how much discomfort that causes many of them," said Keith Reissaus, board chair of The Leapfrog Group. "Consumers deserve ‘A’ hospitals and someday we may see all hospitals earning ‘A's.’ However, we are not there yet."
