7/15/2014 - Eleven NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) specialties are recognized as being top performers nationally in the U.S. News & World Report’s annual Best Hospitals survey. NorthShore was nationally ranked in Gastroenterology & GI Surgery (#43) and rated as high-performing in the following:

  • Cancer
  • Diabetes & Endocrinology
  • Ear, Nose & Throat
  • Geriatrics
  • Gynecology
  • Nephrology
  • Neurology & Neurosurgery
  • Orthopaedics
  • Pulmonology
  • Urology

The evaluation looked at about 5,000 hospitals nationwide, ranking them in 16 different specialties. Less than 3 percent of all hospitals earned a national ranking in any specialty.  The annual rankings, now in their 25th year, recognize hospitals that excel in treating patients who face particularly intensive surgery, a challenging medical condition, or added risk because of multiple health issues or age.

“We are very proud of the outstanding care provided at NorthShore University HealthSystem and to once again have that care recognized in the Best Hospitals rankings,” said Mark Neaman, President and Chief Executive Officer of NorthShore. “We have a comprehensive, highly integrated system of physicians and hospitals at NorthShore. We work hard to provide patients with the best outcomes and exceptional experiences every day.”

The specialty rankings and data were produced for U.S. News by RTI International, a research organization. The rankings are available at http://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals and will appear in the U.S. News “Best Hospitals 2015” guidebook, available in August.
