Research and Innovation
Today’s discoveries change tomorrow’s lives.
As the region’s preeminent provider of advanced care for brain and spine conditions, it’s no surprise that we are also a regional destination for neurological research. NorthShore University HealthSystem has always held strong roots—and continues a profound commitment—to neurological research.
We are actively pursuing new discoveries at our Research Institute to ensure advanced clinical treatments, the latest technology, and innovative surgical techniques are available for our patients today. And through the groundbreaking work of physician scientists, we are dramatically enhancing our ability to understand the causes of neurological disease and predict future outcomes.
Currently, we are conducting several active clinical trials, including those for Alzheimer’s disease, memory disorders, epilepsy, headache, multiple sclerosis, neuromuscular disorders, neuro-oncology, neurophysiology, Parkinson’s disease, sleep disorders and stroke.
Our research efforts also extend to observational studies, including a large study of the genetic and environmental causes of Parkinson’s disease, funded by the National Institutes of Health.
